Altoona , PA — ALTOONA— The James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center will recognize and honor Veteran Patients during National Salute to Veteran Patients week, which occurs from February 12 –

18. Since 1978, VA has used the week of Valentine’s Day to provide a weeklong commemoration for Veterans, while also encouraging more in the community to Volunteer in VA.  To continue this

tradition of recognition, ON VALENTINE’S DAY, FEBRUARY 14, Veterans cared for at the Altoona facility’s Community Living Centers (CLC) will receive special recognition for their service to

the nation. James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center Director, Dr. Derek Coughenour, will present each CLC Veteran patient with a certificate and pin corresponding to their Armed Forces Service

Branch. Dr. Coughenour will also deliver a brief speech to Veterans and Medical Center Volunteers – recognizing both of them for their service and dedication. “Valentines Day is a day when

many show and share their endearment for loved ones – we’re using this day to express our adoration for our Nation’s Heroes,” said Dr. Coughenour. “This is also a time to show appreciation

for the Volunteers who provide comfort and companionship to our Veterans – they give their time and talents for the most noble of causes: serving those who served our nation.” This year, the
