Big weekend headliner teases last minute festival line-up change

media. The wait for the three-day festival is almost over. Taking place in Sefton Park this Bank Holiday weekend, up to 40,000 people are expected to attend the major event each day. Sam

Fender and Mumford & Sons are set to headline the event, which takes place annually in different UK locations. Other artists scheduled to perform include Jade, Sugababes, Lola Young,

Myles Smith and Natasha Bedingfield. Fans can also expect performances by Biffy Clyro, James Hype and HAIM. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday have already sold out. Thankfully, the potential

new addition to the line-up could be set to appear on Friday, May 23, when tickets are still available. Friday's headliner, Tom Grennan, took to Instagram to tease the news, with a

series of eye emojis. The singer-songwriter posted a video to his 522,000 followers of WhatsApp exchanges between himself, BBC Radio 1 and YouTuber KSI. Article continues below The messages

show Tom asking the Prime drink founder and Britain's Got Talent judge what he was up to on Friday and if he can make it to Liverpool. Both KSI and Radio 1 have reposted the messages.

Over the course of the weekend, around 100 acts will take to the stage, from the biggest artists in the world to exciting new and emerging artists, performing across four stages. Boards are

already in place around the park sectioning off the festival site and you can also see the stages being built in the park, as well as a huge Ferris wheel. Photos taken by the ECHO offered a

sneak peek into what Radio 1’s Big Weekend in the city is going to look like as work continues. With such large numbers expected to get involved in the atmosphere, Merseyside Police said it

has been working with partners including the BBC, Liverpool City Council, and MerseyTravel to ensure everything “goes smoothly and visitors have a safe and memorable time”. Chief Inspector

Iain Wyke said: “The city has hosted many major concerts and events in recent years and visitors to the city have always been given a warm welcome and been able to enjoy the lively and

vibrant atmosphere. “We are expecting up to 40,000 people to attend Sefton Park each day, but I want visitors and residents to feel reassured that a robust policing operation has been put in

place to ensure everyone can enjoy the event as well as the nightlife and attractions the city has to offer during the Bank Holiday weekend. “There will be a visible police presence in the

Sefton Park area to reassure the local community and for officers to assist residents and visitors alike. Article continues below
