Mince pies are a Christmas tradition just as important as a turkey or presents. Every year they're purchased in abundance - whether they're eaten or not. For some, they're the
perfect nibble to have alongside festive food but not everyone is a fan. Supermarkets stack their shelves sky-high with the pastries every year, though they vary in flavour, size and
texture depending on where you shop. READ MORE: TRY LIVERPOOL ECHO PREMIUM FOR 99P WITH NO ADS, FUN PUZZLES AND BRILLIANT NEW FEATURES READ MORE: WHERE ELSE WOULD YOU LIKE THE NIGHT BUS TO
GO TO? In the name of the season, we decided to put mince pies from leading supermarkets head to head in a test to see which is the best. TESCO'S ALL BUTTER PASTRY MINI MINCE PIES
REVIEWER: Jessica Molyneux Packed with flavour, this mini mince pie is worth a try if you just want a small treat or if you're thinking of getting a party selection together. The crust
is soft and crumbles easily in your mouth, while the filling is generous and tastes very traditional. I'd much prefer them if they were normal size instead of mini. PRICE: £2.50 RATING:
3.5 - 4/5 GREGGS' SWEET MINCE PIE REVIEWER: Christopher Megrath Admittedly, I'm not a fan of mince pies. The first bite is great but after that, it feels both overly sweet and
sickening. Greggs' sweet mince pie is the first time I went back for seconds. The wide instead of deep serving also means you can bite off just the right amount and not worry about the
insides falling everywhere. The minced meat itself is a delicious amalgamation of Christmassy goodness that will have you back for more. It's slightly sweeter than most I've tried
so be warned if that's not your thing, but high praise indeed to Greggs for making a mince pie I actually liked. PRICE: £0.65 RATING: 5/5 SAINSBURY'S MINCE PIES WITH ALL BUTTER
PASTRY REVIEWER: Lottie Gibbons The Sainsbury's mince pie was filled with fruit, peel, spices, and a hint of brandy. However, when combined with the all-butter pastry, the taste was
overwhelmingly sweet. Although the pastry was deliciously crumbly, I couldn't finish the pie after just one bite due to the cloying sweetness of the filling. PRICE: £1.75 RATING: 2/5
MARKS & SPENCER'S BROWN BUTTER MINCE PIES REVIEWER: Emily Sleight I honestly used to hate mince pies, until I tried out the M&S Collection Mince Pies on a whim. Now, I'll
honestly never look back. Filled with vine fruits, cranberries, clementine and cognac, the mince pies have a buttery and moreish pastry. You get a decent amount of filling in the mince pie
and it isn't too sweet or sickly. Perhaps the reason I like these the most is the fact that they don’t taste like your bog-standard mince pie. The clementine really comes through and
they taste very luxurious. PRICE: £3 RATING: 4/5 LIDL'S ALL BUTTER MINI MICE PIES REVIEWER: Maria Breslin They are marketed as mini mince pies and they really are minute. Also a little
on the dry side and distinctly lacking in mincemeat. Only to be consumed with liquid refreshment, better hot though perfect for leaving under the tree as a treat for Santa. Hardcore mince
pie fans should take their money elsewhere. PRICE: £2.29 RATING: 2/5 ALDI'S ALL BUTTER MINI MINCE PIES REVIEWER: Elliot Jessett The miniature, bite-sized mince pies from Tesco are
perfect for a mid-afternoon snack. Full of flavour in the pastry and an unctuously good mince mix makes this bite-sized treat a true heavyweight amongst the 2023 mince pie standard bearers
and (in my opinion) the pound-for-pound best PRICE: £1.75 RATING: 4/5 WIN BRAND-NEW PICTIONARY VS AI FOR FUN WITH ALL THE FAMILY THIS CHRISTMAS!
