meteorological summer starting this Sunday, June 1. According to the meteorological calendar, summer will then run until August 31.

As we approach what the Met Office calls "the start of summer", from June 2 - June 8, Met Office forecasters don't seem to give a definitive outlook. According to the Met Office website,

some long-range models suggest "much of the UK could eventually see a return to drier and calmer conditions, especially as next week progresses".

‌ However, "an increasing number of long-term weather forecasts show a stronger low pressure signature near the UK bringing a continuation of the rather unsettled and windy conditions, with

temperatures hovering around the seasonal norm [though] England, Wales and perhaps parts of Ireland might turn calmer and drier towards the end of next week."

‌ We may even experience "cooler-than-average conditions by next weekend, which is consistent with the high pressure shifting west of Great Britain and Ireland, leading to a brisk west to

north-westerly flow across the board".

Looking further ahead, from Monday, June 9, to Sunday, June 22, the forecast becomes more optimistic, suggesting "drier and warmer" conditions.

Article continues below The Met Office experts believe "a general return to mostly drier and fairly warmer conditions" is the "more probable outcome", although Scotland and Northern Ireland

may still face "wetter and windier" spells.

The forecast further suggests that "these conditions could persist beyond mid-month, i.e. the high-pressure could linger in the vicinity of the UK, leading to largely dry and prevailing

summery weather conditions", although it does mention the possibility of occasional showers or thunderstorms.
