Ahead of second death anniversary of militant commander Burhan Wani, high security alert has been sounded along the LoC and the international border in Jammu, with forces apprehending there
may be militant infiltration from the other side. Sources said after analyzing all threats and discussing possible precautions at a high level meeting, the top brass of security and
intelligence agencies directed the army and the border security force manning the LoC and the IB respectively to remain extra cautious. The Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Ranbir
Singh also visited areas bordering Rajouri district to review the prevailing security situation along the LoC. Accompanied by White Knight Crops Commander Lieutenant General Saranjeet Singh,
the General Officer Commanding visited forward posts along the LoC in Rajouri sector, where he was briefed about all aspects of operational and logistical preparedness. The GoC also
interacted with the officers and the troops and lauded all ranks for their “unwavering dedication and high morale.” “The commander stressed the need to maintain extra vigil to defeat the
evil designs of hostile forces and assured his full support to further strengthen the security,” a defence spokesperson said. Earlier, on 2 July, the GoC visited Akhnoor sector and took
review of all forward posts. Sources said the security grid was apprehending a spike in the militant attacks in the state, particularly in the Valley, on Bhuran Wani’s death anniversary.
“Following the prevailing conditions, a general alert has been sounded and forces accordingly asked to remain on a high alert and maintain vigil around sensitive security installations
across the state,” they said. “The alert is not specific. However, maximum districts of Jammu share border with Pakistan, so it would not be wrong to say that we have heightened the level of
vigilance,” defence spokesperson said. Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter on July 8, 2016.
