News story KIM EVANS APPOINTED TO THE BOARD OF THE NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY The Prime Minister has appointed Kim Evans OBE to the Board of the National Portrait Gallery for 4 years from 11


October 2010. This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government BIOGRAPHICAL DETAILS KIM EVANS Kim Evans is a cultural broker with extensive


experience as a senior manager in the cultural sector and as a practitioner in the arts. She is a trustee of the Heritage Lottery Fund (the National Heritage Memorial Fund) and a board


member of a number of cultural organisations. From 1999 to 2006 she was Executive Director of Arts at Arts Council England, responsible for national arts policy and an extensive programme of


capital development. Kim started her career as a print journalist and then worked in broadcasting, making arts programmes for ITV’s The South Bank Show, Channel 4, and then the BBC where


she won a BAFTA for her film Angela Carter’s Curious Room. She went on to become Head of Music and Arts with responsibility for cultural programming across BBC television and radio. Kim now


works with a wide range of clients to help support their artistic ambition and develop new and innovative ways of working. In 2007 she was awarded an OBE for her services to the arts. She is


an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art and a Fellow of the Royal Television Society and Royal Society of Arts NOTES TO EDITORS 1. The gallery was looking for a practitioner in the


arts, with knowledge of the management of commercial and cultural organisations. 2. The National Portrait Gallery holds the largest and most distinguished collection of portraits in the


world. The principal aim is to promote through the medium of portraits the appreciation and understanding of the men and women who have made and are making British history and culture, and


to promote the appreciation and understanding of portraiture in all media. As an institution it fulfils a number of roles relating to the historic and contemporary aspects of this


collection: a research and academic role, an educational role, and a wider role within public life. 3. The posts are not remunerated. Reasonable expenses can be claimed. 4. The appointments


have been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. Kim Evans has not undertaken any
