27 July 2000 Pesticide advisors open to question MEMBERS of the public are being given the opportunity to quiz government advisors on pesticide safety at an open meeting. The Advisory
Committee on Pesticides (ACP) says it has made itself open to question because it is committed explaining its work to the general public Committee chairman David Coggon admitted there was
concern that committee decisions affecting the public are made behind closed doors That is why I intend to hold a meeting where the public can meet the committee and find out how it works,
he said. Junior farm minister Baroness Hayman, who will attend, said: “I believe the open meeting should go a long way to dispel some of the myths concerning the committees role.” The
meeting will be held on September 6 in the Tempest Anderson Hall, Museum Gardens, York at 2.00pm. Admittance is by ticket only. Write to: The Secretariat, the Advisory Committee on
Pesticides, Room 308 Mallard House, Kings Pool, 3 Peasholme Green, York YO1 7PX. Or email [email protected]
