Watch: moment truck crashes into airport terminal

An airport in Florida was thrown into destruction after a pickup truck careered off the road and straight into its terminal. The moment the vehicle smashed through a window and crashed into

a rental car check-in desk was caught on film by CCTV. The white truck can be seen causing chaos, taking down a wall and leaving a mess of debris in its path. Though no one in the airport

was injured, the driver of the truck was taken to hospital with severe injuries. The incident took place in the early hours of 19 December at Florida’s Sarasota-Bradenton International

Airport, with surveillance cameras recording footage of the shocking moment. The pickup truck, which is reportedly a GMC Sierra, crashed through a chaining fence and a cinderblock wall

before being stopped by the rental car counter. Luckily, the airport was largely empty of passengers at the time, with the final flights of the evening 20 minutes before the incident

in hospital being treated for “severe injuries”. Prior to the crash, local police state they had already attempted to stop the driver for his reckless driving, but he had sped away. The

truck then bombed through the airport parking lot and into the terminal. According to the Tampa Bay Times, airport personnel estimated that the damage to the luggage carousel alone would

require months to repair and cost of around $250,000. He said: “A little hole in the back wall of the baggage claim. It destroyed that part of the wall. “The conveyor belt has been severely

damaged. The ceiling, this whole doorway area, the counters. “It will be pretty extensive the damage and we’ve got engineering people on the way in to assess that. “For him to go through a

cinderblock wall and then go another fifty of 60 feet, and have to be stopped by another counter shows you the amount of speed he was going.”
