Rubens barrichello reveals deadly brain tumour in emotional interview

Barrichello was rushed to hospital earlier this year after collapsing in the shower and fans feared the worst after noticing his absence from social media. But the 45-year-old, who made his

name in F1 with Ferrari but also raced for Honda, Brawn GP and Williams, eventually posted a reassuring message that he was convalescing in hospital. However, he has only now revealed the

extent of the damage and admitted he was extremely lucky to survive. “Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my head,” a visibly emotional Barrichello told Brazilian TV station _Globo_. “It seemed

to be exploding, I had to fall on the ground and only after a few minutes I managed to reach my wife Silvana to ask for help. “I immediately realised that it was a serious problem. “I had

unbearable pain, and I told a doctor friend who immediately sensed the seriousness of the situation. “I feel like a miracle. “They told me that only 14 per cent of the people who suffered

this type of problem then managed to recover completely.” Barrichello’s plight sent shockwaves throughout the racing community and his video message sent from hospital was viewed nearly

300,000 times. “I can see everyone is sending me messages and everyone is worried," he said back in February. "A long time not posting pictures and so on, so I decided to tell you.

"On Saturday I decided to wake up and have a shower. I felt a terrible headache. "Luckily my wife was there and she called a friend doctor who took me to the hospital, they took

really good care of me. "I had a small problem on a vein, but I want to tell you that I am feeling great. "I am still going through exams and so on, but I am honestly great and the

difficulties in life are the ones who show us how to grow and how to be better. "I am so thankful, thank god for the opportunity and soon I will be back on the racetrack. So good to

speak to you guys."
