NEWCASTLE UNITED'S CLOSEST RIVALS HAVE A BUSY - AND POTENTIALLY LUCRATIVE - SUMMER IN FRONT OF THEM 18:00, 31 May 2025 In the world of Profit and Sustainability Rules [PSR], every penny

counts - and two of the riches clubs in the Premier League will this summer take their shot at winning an additional £77.5m at the expanded 32-team Club World Cup. FIFA plans to distribute

a total of $1bn (£775m) in prize money for the tournament as a whole, with £407m of the prize fund divided between all participating clubs and an additional £368m dished out depending on

performances at the tournament. Chelsea and Manchester City - the teams that finished directly above Newcastle United in the Premier League - will join the likes of Real Madrid, Palmeiras,

Al-Hilal and other sides from around the globe to take part in the event, knowing full well going deep in the summer competition could do wonders for their financial situations. This, as

Newcastle plot their own summer of spending after overcoming previous PSR concerns. FIFA have been blasted from all angles over the summer showdown, with kicks off in mid-June. Criticism has

included a lack of concern over player welfare, adding yet more fixtures to an already hectic schedule, unfair amounts of prize money for those going deep in the competition compared to

UEFA Champions League successes and more. "It's just because it is another tournament. Who wants it? No one," Brentford boss Thomas Frank recently said of the competition.

"I will enjoy my summer. No chance [will I watch it]." Eddie Howe will likely be keeping one eye on the competition, giving his meticulous nature, but the bulk of the tournament

will clash with Newcastle's return to Tyneside for pre-season at the start of July. However, the Toon boss will be aware of the finances on offer for Premier League rivals City and

Chelsea should they enjoy success in the latter rounds. £1.54m will be dished out per group stage win and will continue for the rest of the tournament as follows: Article continues below

LAST 16 – £5.79M QUARTER-FINALS – £10.14M SEMI-FINALS – £16.22M RUNNER-UP – £23.18M WINNER – £30.91M Talking up the competition in recent months, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said: “The

Fifa Club World Cup will not only be the pinnacle of club football, but also a vivid demonstration of solidarity that will benefit clubs at large to a scale that no other competition has

ever done. All revenue generated by the tournament will be distributed to the participating clubs and via club solidarity across the world as Fifa will not keep a single dollar. Fifa’s

reserves, which are there for global football development, will remain untouched.” _Here at ChronicleLive, we are dedicated to bringing you the best NEWCASTLE UNITED coverage and analysis._
