THE ARRIVAL OF ONE OF THE WORLD'S TOP CREATIVE DIRECTORS AT ST JAMES' PARK SHOULD BODE WELL FOR THE CLUB'S BADGE REBRAND 16:00, 15 May 2025 Newcastle United fans have been
assured that the club's plans to change badges could not be in better hands after landing an astute signing from Nike last year. The Magpies' creative director Kenny McIver is a
boyhood fan with the club at heart. It will be McIver and the club's head of branding Dan Ginger who will spearhead the changes to the club crest. It is expected that the new crest will
not be a major shift away from its current format. Evolution rather than revolution are the watch words emerging from the corridors of power at St James' Park which suggests a cleaner
look for the current badge. One source suggested a "sharpening up" process of the badge we all know and love rather than an revamp which has proved to be the downfall of rival
clubs. McIver's impressive CV includes working with the England national team for Nike, Barcelona and Paris St-Germain. The positive for Newcastle fans is the person at the heart of the
club's new crest plans cares just as much as they do about the product - something that was pledged to supporters attending the workshop at St James' last night. Article continues
below Fans were told that Newcastle were "categorically" against changing to a circular badge. According to Black and White banter Tik Tok channel the supporters in attendance
were told that the club crest that was leaked last week had been indeed been looked at by the club. A club statement issued last week read: "As our club grows on the global stage, the
symbol that represents us needs to be able to keep pace. It needs to show up clearly and confidently across everything – from kits to screens to merchandise. "So, we’ve been asking
ourselves: how well does our current crest represent the club today? And how well will it serve us tomorrow? Article continues below "It’s time to update our crest. This isn’t a
decision we take lightly. We love our crest. It’s iconic and has stood us through unforgettable triumphs and testing times. "But it was created in a different era. Its intricate design
doesn’t always translate well in today’s digital world. And it’s difficult to reproduce it clearly and consistently." Despite this, there has been a significant backlash to the
proposal. Many fans have disagreed with the need to change the design. Consultations will continue to take place but Newcastle United Supporters Trust have written a letter to Darren Eales
expressing their unhappiness with certain elements of the process.
