Tesla Model 3 was arguably the car of the year in 2017 for both the right and the wrong reasons.

It was hailed, when it was first announced, as a game changing car not just for the Californian car manufacturer but also for the electric car market.

The car’s impressive specs of 310 miles of range, autonomous features, forward-thinking interior and more affordable price tag positioned the car as a disruptive force in the industry.

Unfortunately, due to “production bottlenecks” the Model 3 has gained more negative press as deliveries have slowed.

The manufacturer is some way off its 5,000 a week target it had aimed for by the end of 2017.

However, last week it was confirmed that production speeds are increasing at the factory which should see more patient reservation holders receive their car soon.

More and more drivers that do not work for Tesla are getting their hands on the car and putting it through its paces.

One of these people gave an update on the car’s performance specs, which are seemingly quicker than Tesla has been letting on.

DragTimes managed to get their hands on a new Model 3 with the RWD configuration with Long Range battery pack and put it through its paces in a road test.

Using a VBOX they tested the car’s 0-60mph acceleration time and also its quarter mile drag time, something tesla hasn’t previously revealed.

It achieved the quarter miles in 13.376 reaching a speed of 103 mph and also managed into hit a 0-60mph time of 4.6 seconds.

This is an improvement over the advertised 0-60mph in five seconds.

While it was never designed as a performance EV, Elon Musk did say at the car’s launch event that Tesla doesn’t make “slow cars.”

The manufacturer’s rapid acceleration speeds are also one of the most revered features of these impressive EVs with the top of the range Model S regularly smashing supercars in drag races.
