Appeal for 100th birthday cards for 'glamorous' retired nurse maisie

MAISIE DALZIEL WILL TURN 100 NEXT WEEK - AND CARERS WANT THE NORTH EAST PUBLIC TO HELP HER CELEBRATE 05:00, 29 May 2025 Care home staff in Jesmond are calling for the people of the North

East to send birthday cards to a "glamorous" retired nurse who is soon to be 100 years old. Maisie Dalziel will be 100 on June 5. Born in 1925 in County Durham, she moved to

Newcastle during the Second World War - when her father went to work at the Vickers factory in the city. Nowadays, she lives at Fleming Court in Jesmond. She "devoted her career to

nursing", the team at Fleming Court said. They also reflected: "In her younger days, she was known for her glamorous style and love of ballroom dancing – a true social spirit who

lit up every room she entered." Asked how she wants to mark turning 100, Maisie herself said: “"Some nicely written cards… and maybe to go out somewhere.” And as such the people of

the region are invited to send birthday cards "filled with kind words, warm wishes or even a cheeky joke". The team at the home said that while Maisie was born in the same year as

former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, "we think Maisie’s had a lot more fun!” Karen Stewart, manager at Fleming Court - which is operated by HC-One - said: "Maisie is an

absolute treasure – her warmth, wit and wonderful stories brighten every day at Fleming Court. Reaching 100 is an extraordinary achievement, and we want to make sure she feels as special as

she truly is. "We’d be so grateful if members of the community could help us make this birthday unforgettable for her. Whether it’s a card, a kind message or a little surprise, every

gesture will mean the world to Maisie – and to all of us who love her dearly. Let’s come together to honour a century of kindness, strength, and style – and show Maisie how much her story
