A CAFE HAS SHUT ITS DOORS AFTER BEING TAKEN OVER LAST YEAR 15:42, 21 May 2025 A popular daytime venue on Birmingham Broad Street has closed down, seemingly for good, after being taken over
by new owners last year. Odissi Coffee opened near to the entrance to Brindleyplace back in September 2023. It was originally designed as a spin-off of Quarter House Coffee, an independent
coffee roaster located in the Jewellery Quarter, and was launched by the same husband and wife team, Nathan and Ameeta Retzer. READ MORE: Inside new Korean supermarket selling viral products
on Birmingham New Street It was one of the only solely-daytime businesses operating on the nightlife strip and quickly attracted a glowing reputation for its laid-back atmosphere, quality
coffee and tasty pastries. One reviewer recently described it as 'one of the best coffee places in Birmingham'. The café was taken over by a different local name, Baked in Brick,
in 2024 and operated under the company's Bakehouse bakery brand while keeping its old name. At the time of writing, Odissi was listed as 'permanently closed' on Google and
hadn't received any customer reviews in over a month. BirminghamLive contacted the original owners and was told the decision was taken by the new owners, who we have also attempted to
reach for comment. The closure leaves another unit empty on the city's Golden Mile. Players bar, which shut down in 2022, remains vacant, as does the Rocket Gentlemans Club, which
closed the same year, and the old Love Milano Coffee shop. Article continues below Locals and daytime revellers can still get their coffee fix at Papillion Cafe, at the bottom end of Broad
Street, and at The Exchange, which can be found inside the historic old municipal bank at the top end.
