The Charlotte Knights met the final deadline placed on them by Mecklenburg County Commissioners to move forward with a new baseball stadium uptown. Tuesday night, commissioners will review
the financing plan submitted by the team. Knights General Manager Dan Rajkowski says the team has lined up bank support to borrow $45 million for stadium construction. Another $15 million
will come from the team's owners and advance revenue from major sponsorships. After months of wrangling with city and county officials over their combined commitment of $15.5 million
for the stadium, Rajkowski seems relieved to now focus on design details. "This is the fun part of the time - between now and construction - it's really getting a clear picture of
what this building's gonna look like and how it's gonna act," says Rajkowski. The new Knights stadium will be a few blocks from Bank of America Stadium in the Third Ward and
have room for about 11,000 fans. Documents provided to the Mecklenburg County Commission show construction starting the week after the Democratic National Convention in September. The
Knights hope to be playing in the new stadium Spring of 2014.
