Welsh labour politician expelled from party over sexual misconduct complaint

CARDIFF COUNCILLOR KEITH JONES WAS FOUND TO HAVE BREACHED PARTY STANDARDS AFTER AN INVESTIGATION LASTING THREE YEARS 14:00, 20 May 2025Updated 15:35, 20 May 2025 A Cardiff councillor has

been kicked out of the Labour party after a three-year investigation into his conduct. Keith Jones, who represents Llanrumney, has been expelled from the party. The nature of the complaint

he faced has not been made public but we understand it was a matter of physical misconduct of a sexual nature. A Labour Party spokesman said: "Action will always be taken if party

members or elected representatives are found to have breached the high standards the Labour party expects of them. "All complaints are investigated thoroughly in line with our rules and

procedures." In 2022 Cllr Jones was named as the new cabinet member for transport in council leader Huw Thomas' proposed cabinet. However his name then disappeared from the final

investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken." It is now understood his Labour party membership was administratively suspended

when a formal complaint was made to the party and as a result he was not appointed to Cardiff Council’s cabinet. Cllr Jones remains on Cardiff council, as an independent member, and remains

employed by Rhianon Passmore, the Senedd member for Islwyn, in her Senedd office. He was previously suspended for nearly 21 months while the Labour party investigated complaints against him

in 2013. That led to a formal suspension of two years in 2015 after the investigation revealed that he had sent inappropriate communications via social media to female party members. You can

read the report from that here. He was previously secretary of the Labour group on Cardiff council and served as a deputy lord mayor. ‌In 2010 Cllr Jones was found guilty of unacceptable

professional conduct at a General Teaching Council for Wales hearing. He had been sacked as a history teacher by Radyr Comprehensive School for tampering with work handed in by 25 pupils in

2007. When asked to comment on his expulsion Cllr Jones said: "The Labour party have instructed me that there will be legal consequences if I discuss anything to do with this matter

with the media or anyone else." Article continues below
