WILMINGTON, Del. -- Wilmington VA Medical Center (WVAMC) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Da Vinci Robot System and revivification of the Endovascular Suite on Feb. 1, 2024.

While the Da Vince Robot System is brand new, the Endovascular Suite lied dormant for eight years until the program was able to be restored in 2023.  The endovascular suite does arteriograms

and angiograms to look at blood vessels and they evaluate the blood flow to the extremities. They often treat occlusions to open circulation to return blood flow to the extremities.  “We

now have a new Interventional Radiology Technician on our staff, we didn't have one until now,” said Amy Phillips Operating Room Nurse Manager. “We updated the adjunct equipment for the

room and there was a lot of training and education that took place.” “The establishment of an Endovascular suite underscores our continual commitment to embracing state-of-the-art medical

technology, assuring our Veterans receive the most advanced and comprehensive care available,” said Wilmington VA Director Vamsee Potluri.  Since March of 2023 there have been 18 cases that

resulted from the team’s 40-hour trainings to get the suite operational.  The new state-of-the-art Da Vinci Robot System had its first successful procedure on a gallbladder on Dec. 15, 2023.

This machinery is in our robotics department. It consists of a surgeon console used to view the anatomy of the patient and allows for 360-degree articulation where the human hands cannot.

It allows for finer dexterity and better optics. The robotics program is also doing hernia repair.  These two new technologies bring new capabilities to the WVAMC.  To sign up for VA
