VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System’s Veterans Day Car Show & Barbeque returned after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic for its sixth event Nov. 10. VA hosts events

throughout the year for Veterans, their families, and the community. Robert Johnson, Chief for the Center for Development and Civic Engagement, sees it as a way for VA to show appreciation

and to honor our nation's heroes. With nearly 300 cars registered and more than 3,000 in attendance, organizers considered the event to be a great success. “There was enough food to

feed thousands,” said a Veteran cooking on the grill. “If everyone ate one hotdog or hamburger, we feed nearly 3,000 people”. While the Car Show and BBQ honored Veterans of all branches of

service, this one had special meaning for a certain subset of those at the event. “What a better way to spend the Marine Corps 248th birthday than with other Veterans,” said U.S. Marine

Corps Veteran and VA employee Ken Covington. Edmond Talley, housekeeping aid and retired U.S. Army Veteran, commented on the heartwarming atmosphere saying, “This is a great event

socializing with employees and Veterans, even if I’m working.” VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is devoted to improving Veterans lives through Whole Health. In addition to treating and

diagnosing medical conditions, VA works with Veterans to ensure total well-being.  In many ways, this Car Show and BBQ isn’t just about food and vintage automobiles but fostering a community

spirit and sense of family among Veterans, families, caregivers, survivors and staff. See more photos of Veterans, vendors, VA staff, volunteers and the cars or trucks that made this day a
