Jim Robertson was awarded VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System’s (VASNHCS) Employee of the Year for 2023. Jim was working with a Veteran suffering from dementia who reported both physical
abuse and financial exploitation. Rather than writing off the Veteran’s concerns as part of the disease, Jim went to work doing research and obtaining information. Mr. Robertson was able to
present the case to our VA legal counsel, VA police, Elderly Protective Services (EPS), and Risk Management team that uncovered a barrage of information supporting evidence of exploitation
of the Veteran by her caregiver. Mr. Robertson was able to submit sufficient evidence to open an EPS report, VBA issued an emergency fiduciary, and this caregiver no longer had access to
abuse and control the Veteran. She was able to spend her remaining days in a safe environment under comfort care. She was also able to reconnect with her daughter, whose access to the
patient had been blocked by the caregiver. We are truly grateful to have Mr. Robertson on our team. Both provider’s and staff hold Jim’s personal mastery of these complex cases in high
regard and respect his advice and guidance. Mr. Robertson has strong working relationships with colleagues and personnel from other disciplines. Congratulations to our 2023 Employee of the
Year, Jim Robertson!
