Salisbury , NC — Salisbury VA announced today the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for
Hospital; Behavioral Health Care and Human Services; and Home Care Program Accreditations, effective April 18 – 20, 2024. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care
organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The accreditation cycle is valid for up to 36 months from the effective date. Salisbury VA’s previous accreditation in
Hospital; Behavioral Health Care and Human Services; and Home Care by The Joint Commission was earned in June 2021. “I am so proud of the entire VA team throughout Charlotte, Kernersville,
and Salisbury for their hard work in achieving these accreditations. This was a rigorous inspection, and our employees met or, in many cases, exceeded The Joint Commission’s standards in all
three program categories,” said Kevin P. Amick, executive director of the Salisbury VA Health Care System. “These accreditations not only help us certify compliance, but also confirm why so
many Veterans prefer to receive their care at VA facilities. Salisbury VA thanks The Joint Commission for their oversight of our health care system and support of our Veterans,” said Amick.
Salisbury VA underwent comprehensive, unannounced onsite reviews held at the Charlotte Community-Based Outpatient Clinic; the Charlotte Health Care Center; the Kernersville Health Care
Center; and the W.G. (Bill) Hefner Salisbury VA Medical Center in April 2024. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Hospital; Behavioral Health
Care and Human Services; and Home Care standards, spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication
management, and rights and responsibilities of the individual. The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and
patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess, and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite
observations and interviews with VA employees and patients. “As a healthcare accreditor, The Joint Commission works with healthcare organizations across care settings to inspire safer and
higher quality of care that is more equitable and compassionate,” said Ken Grubbs, DNP, MBA, RN, executive vice president of Accreditation and Certification Operations and chief nursing
officer, The Joint Commission. “Through collaborating on innovative solutions and evidence-based resources and tools, The Joint Commission helps drive improvement while maintaining
accountability through our leading survey methods and standards. We commend the Salisbury VA Health Care System for its commitment to advance safety, quality, equity and compassion for all
patients.” For more information, please visit The Joint Commission website at https://www.jointcommission.org/. At the Salisbury VA Health Care System, our mission is to fulfill President
Lincoln’s promise to care for those who have served in our nation’s military and for their families, caregivers, and survivors. Learn more about the Salisbury VA Health Care System at
