On March 27th, VA Providence held a special celebration of Women’s History Month, an event that not only honored the contributions of women in history but also shone a light on the
achievements of women Veterans. The success of this celebration was evident in the engaging discussions, meaningful insights, and the community’s participation, underscoring our ongoing
commitment to recognizing and empowering women Veterans. We were honored to have Maija Hill, a distinguished member of the US Army and the Narragansett Tribe, as our guest speaker. Hill’s
inspiring address captivated the audience, weaving together her experiences in the military with her rich cultural heritage. Her message highlighted the resilience, strength, and
contributions of women in the armed forces and in society, providing a reminder of the important roles women have played and continue to play in shaping our nation. The event was attended by
Kasim Yarn, Director of the Rhode Island Office of Veteran Services. Director Yarn’s attendance underscored the state’s support for our women Veterans and his commitment to advancing the
welfare of all veterans in Rhode Island. His participation added a significant layer of camaraderie and support for the objectives of the celebration. The celebration was orchestrated by
Joanne Barrett, the VA Providence Women Veteran Program Manager. Barrett’s dedication and passion for serving women Veterans were evident in every aspect of the event. Her efforts ensured
that the celebration was not only a success but also a meaningful experience for all attendees, providing a platform for education, recognition, and empowerment. We extend our heartfelt
thanks to Maija Hill, Kasim Yarn, Joanne Barrett, and all who contributed to making this event a memorable celebration. The VA Providence is proud to support our women Veterans, not just
during Women’s History Month but throughout the year.
