November is National Lung Cancer Awareness Month, and VA Providence Healthcare System is raising awareness and providing resources for veterans and staff members who are at risk or affected
by lung cancer. On November 6th, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, VA Providence hosted a resource fair on the 5th floor in classroom 3, where visitors could learn about lung cancer screening,
prevention, treatment, and research. The resource fair featured educational materials, and interactive activities, such as the giant inflatable lung. The visitors also had the opportunity to
talk to health care professionals who answered their questions and provided guidance and support. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among Veterans, and early detection is key
to improving survival rates and quality of life. The resource fair aimed to encourage Veterans and staff members to get screened for lung cancer, especially if they are current or former
smokers, have a family history of lung cancer, or have been exposed to radon, asbestos, or other environmental hazards. The resource fair was a success and received positive feedback from
the visitors. VA Providence is committed to ensuring the health and well-being of Veterans and their families, and to supporting the research and innovation in the field of lung cancer.
Special thank you to Caleb Mcvey, Lung Cancer Screening Coordinator, for organizing this event.
