Nurse education clinical rotations | veterans affairs

VA Portland Health Care System offers learning opportunities for undergraduate nurses, graduate nurses, and certified nursing assistants. As part of the nation’s largest health care system,

our trained clinical faculty prepares health care professionals to provide the highest standard of care and compassion to Veterans. CLINICAL PLACEMENT REQUEST PROCESS   All clinical

placements must be approved by the VA Nurse Clinical Placement Coordinator.  The clinical placement process takes around 3 months to complete (1 month for confirming placements site and 2

months to onboard).  Please keep this in mind when planning your clinical rotations.  You will receive an email from the clinical placement team letting you know if your placement has been

approved.    UNDERGRADUATE PROCESS  Placement requests for undergraduate should be placed on ACEMAPP about 3 months prior to clinical rotation start date.  If you do not have access to

ACEMAPP, please contact the Clinical Placement Coordinator.   If placement is approved, the clinical placement coordinator will confirm in ACEMAPP and send a confirmation email that includes

education partner point of contact and the unit manager.  Once rotation is confirmed, Education Partner will need to complete the forms below and return them to the Office of Academic

Affiliations (OAA) to start the onboarding process. This will take about 8 weeks to complete.   GRADUATE PROCESS  All clinical rotation requests are to be submitted to the VA Clinical

Rotation team using the Clinical Rotation Request Form.  Please submit your requests by the following: * Fall (August-December) Clinical Rotation requests:  June 1 * Winter/Spring

(Jan-April) Clinical Rotation requests: October 1 * Summer (May-July) Clinical Rotation requests: February 1 Once the clinical preceptor is confirmed, the VA Clinical Rotation team will send

an email with the preceptor, school clinical rotation point of contact, and student included.  The email will have all onboarding paperwork and next steps included. Onboarding takes around

8 weeks to complete.  The student can start their clinical rotation as soon as they have their VA Badge.
