The Montana VA held a unique Recreational Therapy event this week as they tackled the fresh powder of a local mountain. Montana Veterans were able to shred, rip and carve the slopes on skis

as part of their recreational therapy journeys. Based on their physical abilities, Montana Veterans were able to snowboard, ski or use a ski bike to make some gnarly runs on the slopes. 

Each Montana Veteran was also paired with a local volunteer to help guarantee they were safe, assist them if needed, and to help make sure they had fun.  The Montana VA offers a wide range

of activities including arts and crafts, games, sports, and exercise that can be adapted to each Veteran’s needs. Veterans can talk to their primary health care provider, mental health care

provider or a licensed independent provider for a referral to Recreation Therapy. After the referral is made, a Recreation Therapist will meet with the Veteran to provide goals, objectives,

and a treatment plan.  Plans include:  Adaptive sports training Outdoor recreation Indoor recreation Social programs Creative Arts -- painting, creative writing and more Recreation and
