POST GRADUATE YEAR ONE (PGY1) PHARMACY PRACTICE RESIDENCY PROGRAM The Miami VA Healthcare System PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program emphasizes training in adult clinical pharmacy practice. The
program provides training in various aspects of pharmacotherapy within the acute, chronic, and ambulatory care settings. During each rotation, and under the guidance of preceptors, the
resident will function as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with all associated responsibilities. Residency preceptors, in concert with the Residency Program Director (RPD), will evaluate the
resident’s progress and identify areas of competence and deficiency. PGY2 PSYCHIATRIC PHARMACY RESIDENCY PROGRAM The Miami VA PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency includes extensive
experience in providing comprehensive psychiatric pharmaceutical care within the specialty areas of psychiatry and primary care to the local Veteran population. This residency offers
various learning opportunities, extending beyond traditional acute inpatient and outpatient psychiatry clinics and substance abuse services, by incorporating the role of a psychiatric
pharmacy resident within the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) team. PCMHI is an inter-professional mental health team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, social
workers, and pharmacists. This group works collaboratively with Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) clinics in primary care and manages psychiatric referrals from Primary Care PACT teams. PGY2
HEALTH SYSTEMS PHARMACY ADMINISTRATION & LEADERSHIP (HSPAL) RESIDENCY PROGRAM The Miami VA PGY2 Health Systems Pharmacy Administration & Leadership (HSPAL) Residency Program
emphasizes training in the fundamentals of pharmacy management and leadership in clinical pharmacy and operational practice settings. Completion of this program will prepare residents to
assume high level managerial, supervisory, and leadership responsibilities. Areas of competence emphasized during the program include safe and effective medication-use systems, quality
assurance, the management of human resources and labor relations, the management of financial resources, use of technology, and advanced leadership. The residency lays the foundation for
continued growth in management and leadership skills. Upon graduation, residents will be prepared to assume a clinical or operational management/supervisory role in a variety of work
settings including small to mid-size hospitals, large health systems, and pharmacy benefit management organizations. RESIDENCY INFORMATION Number of positions: five PGY-1 Pharmacy and one
PGY-1 with Mental Health Electives, one PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy, and two PGY2 HSPAL positions Duration: 12-months (52 weeks) starting July 1 of the residency year Stipends: PGY 1 $51,142 ,
PGY 2 $54,684 Benefits: One week of vacation, 11 paid holidays, travel allowance for select meetings. APPLICATION AND REQUIREMENTS A candidate applying to a VA must be a citizen of the
United States of America and must have Pharm.D. degree from an Accreditation Council on Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited college or school of pharmacy. An interview is required either
by electronic means online (Teams) or onsite. PGY1 residents must be licensed prior to or within 120 days of the start of the residency. PGY2 residents must have completed an ASHP
accredited (or candidate status) PGY1 pharmacy residency AND be licensed in at least one (1) state of the United States of America or Puerto Rico. The Miami VA participates in the ASHP
Residency Match Program. Residency candidates must apply through the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PHORCAS) by January 10th of the residency application year.
The online application must include: * Curriculum Vitae * Letter of intent, including applicant’s professional goals and objectives * Official college transcripts from all pharmacy colleges
