during Health Professions Education Week. The facility has trained over 1000 students since 2016, averaging over 200 per year. VA is the nation’s largest provider of health professions

training, with more than 118,000 future health professionals participating in training, affiliations, or other educational opportunities each year. “VA’s health professions education

programs enhance the quality of and timely access to care provided to Veterans,” said Michael Zapor, MD, Deputy Chief of Staff. “Our trainees and students often tell us the greatest reward

of training at VA is serving Veterans.” The medical center wishes to take the opportunity to recognize and thank its dedicated health professions trainees, educators, academic affiliates,

and most of all, the Veterans who actively engage in VA’s training mission. Academic affiliations play a vital role in meeting Veteran health care needs, which serve as a pipeline to future

health professionals who will care for our Nation’s Veterans. “To name just a few, we are proud of our affiliations with Shepherd University, Shenandoah University, WVU, and George

Washington University, as well as Blue Ridge Community and Technical College, Howard University, and James Rumsey Technical Institute to provide training in a variety of disciplines

including Medicine, Nursing, Psychology Psychiatry, Physician Assistants, Phlebotomy, and Pharmacy,” says Dr. Zapor. The Martinsburg VA Medical Center offers training programs for students

at the college, university, and postgraduate levels. Learn more: https://www.va.gov/martinsburg-health-care/work-with-us/internships-and-fellowships/
