Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is an annual holiday celebrated on June 19 in the United States. It honors the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and marks

the day in 1865 when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the last enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and is

considered the longest-running African American holiday.  Juneteenth represents a significant milestone in the ongoing struggle for racial equality and celebrates African American history,

culture, and achievements. It has evolved into a day of remembrance, education, and community gatherings, with various events such as parades, music festivals, picnics, and readings of the

Emancipation Proclamation taking place nationwide. On June 14, 2024, VA Illiana will join in the celebration by hosting a Block Party Event. Food trucks will be on hand for the enjoyment of
