The BEE Award, Being Excellent Every Day, For Extraordinary Team Members. Congratulations to Sandra Brashears, a Certified Nursing Assistant on the Silver Team In a bustling hospital
dedicated to serving those who have served, there was a beacon of positivity and dedication that shone brightly among the staff: Sandra Brashears. A Certified Nursing Assistant on the Silver
Team, Sandra was known not just for her impeccable skills but for the warmth and kindness she radiated every single day. As the sun rose each morning, Sandra would arrive with a smile that
could light up even the dreariest of days. Her infectious cheerfulness was a balm for the Veterans, their families, and her fellow staff members. It was not uncommon to hear laughter echoing
in the hallways when Sandra was around, and her ability to uplift spirits made the hospital feel a little more like home. Sandra’s commitment to the Veterans extended far beyond her
required duties. Even after her official hours, she would go the extra mile—literally and figuratively. This month alone, she had taken Veterans in wheelchairs on rides, bringing them joy
and a sense of freedom that many had longed for. On one occasion, Sandra encountered a Veteran struggling on the second floor near X-ray. Recognizing his distress, she didn’t hesitate to
approach him. After a brief conversation, he agreed to let her help him to his vehicle, even though it meant extending her shift by an extra thirty minutes. This was the embodiment of the I
CARE MISSION she so passionately upheld. Her dedication didn’t stop there. One evening, as the clock struck four, she noticed a chemo nurse and a Veteran needing assistance. Without a second
thought, she retrieved a wheelchair from the front of the building and wheeled the Veteran to his truck, ensuring he got there safely. Afterward, she returned the wheelchair, showcasing her
unwavering commitment to providing the highest quality of care. Sandra was consistently seen prioritizing the needs of Veterans, often stepping in to assist when family members were
momentarily unavailable. Whether it was helping a Veteran navigate to the restroom during treatment or ensuring they had refreshments, she always took the time to ensure their comfort and
well-being. She meticulously checked armbands before vital sign assessments, understanding the critical importance of safety in the chemotherapy infusion clinic. Her willingness to assist
wherever needed made her a valued team member. She floated to different areas without complaint, each time bringing her signature positivity and dedication with her. Dianne Presley, a
dedicated R.N. in Chemotherapy, praised Sandra’s exceptional attitude, her kindness, and her unwavering support to both Veterans and staff. Dianne noted how Sandra would often seek out
wheelchairs for Veterans who had to stay late for treatment, demonstrating her commitment to care, even when off the clock. In Dianne’s eyes, and the eyes of many others, Sandra was not just
a co-worker; she was a friend and an inspiration. Her humility and unwavering dedication served as a reminder of what true service looks like. With all these extraordinary qualities and
actions, it was no surprise that Dianne felt compelled to nominate Sandra for the Bee Award. “Anyone who has the privilege of working alongside Sandra knows that she embodies the spirit of
compassion and service,” Dianne remarked. “I’ve been in the working world for 35 years, and I can confidently say that Sandra has the best attitude of anyone I’ve ever encountered. She is
genuinely deserving of this recognition.” As the nomination process for the Bee Award unfolded, it became clear that Sandra Brashears was not just an outstanding staff member; she was a
shining example of what it means to serve with heart. Her story would inspire others to follow in her footsteps, ensuring that the legacy of kindness and commitment to our Veterans would
continue to thrive.
