Affairs Officer May 3, 2022 The Birmingham VA received a new donated van from the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). The 2021 Ford seven-passenger van is being donated by Alexander City DAV
Chapter #13 and will transport Veterans from the Childersburg VA Clinic to the Birmingham VA Medical Center. BVAHCS also has three other DAV vans that transport Veterans from the Anniston VA
Clinic, Gadsden VA Clinic, and the Shoals VA Clinic to the medical center. By 2020, the DAV vans have over 4,000 hours of use, transporting over 1,000 Veterans more than 70,000 miles. Hugo
Perez, DAV State of Alabama Adjutant, presented the van to BVAHCS. “We are extremely humbled by the generosity of the DAV to donate a van that will help us transport more of our Veterans to
receive the medical care they need and deserve,” said Dr. Oladipo Kukoyi, BVAHCS Executive Director. “Transportation is a factor for some Veterans, and this will help us meet that
challenge.” The DAV provides various services to Veterans in Alabama, including help with filing VA claims for disability compensation, appealing claims decisions, and securing
transportation to VA medical appointments.
