Avalanche hits Jawahar Tunnel in J&K, shuts down Srinagar-Jammu highway; rescue operations underway - Watch

Srinagar: The Jawahar Tunnel on the Srinagar-Jammu highway has been shut down after a heavy avalanche hit the region early Tuesday morning, creating a massive blockade and paralysing civic

movement.

The avalanche hit the North portal of the Kashmir side in Qazigund area of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, rescue operations are underway. There are no reports of casualties yet.

A massive avalanche in Ladakh's Khardung La last week where 6 people were killed and four others are feared dead as rescue operations are still going on. The truck carrying a group of 10

people was hit by the avalanche at 7 am on Friday in Khardung La, a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) official told news agency PTI. According to media reports, the survival chances in such

avalanches are bleak.
