Dale MillerThe West Australian Port Adelaide’s master plan to secure Gold Coast forward Charlie Dixon during trade week is set to cost West Australian Mason Shaw his spot on the club’s list.
Shaw, 21, was told at his post-season review meeting on Monday that he could expect to be de-listed by the AFL’s final lodgement date on December 1. A 197cm key forward prospect, Shaw has
been unable to break through for his AFL debut in three seasons on the Power’s list largely because of a string of injury problems. The South Fremantle product was due to have an operation
on his groin yesterday after battling osteitis pubis for much of this year. He has steadily added the size required to become a successful power forward while at Port Adelaide, having built
a 96kg frame since being drafted at pick No.30 in the 2012 national draft. Shaw’s retention is no longer a priority at Port Adelaide, who have made it clear they intend to strike a deal with
the Suns for 24-year-old Dixon. In a statement issued earlier this month, the Power confirmed Dixon had nominated the club as his destination of choice for 2016 and beyond after requesting
a trade. Dixon, who booted 41 goals for Gold Coast in 16 matches this season, is expected to join the Power on a five-year deal. “Port Adelaide is extremely pleased with this announcement
and will now finalise the appropriate medical assessment and work with the Gold Coast Suns to find a suitable and fair trade for both clubs,” the statement said. Shaw showed potential last
season in booting 25 goals from 14 SANFL games for the Port Adelaide Magpies. GET THE LATEST NEWS FROM THEWEST.COM.AU IN YOUR INBOX. Sign up for our emails
