South Western Times In a sacrifice intended as a tribute to the Dardanup shire’s rural industries, Russell Sheridan will watch his three weeks of manual labour turn to ash in the annual

burning of the bull at the 11th Bull and Barrel Festival on Saturday. The 8m-high by 9m-long wooden bull was crafted with the help of Roman Maral to the theme of the Wizard of Oz. Mr

Sheridan said the concept was easy to create as it was always a bull,” he said. “Each year the bull is different, but this time I decided to make it look like one big toy.” He said was happy

to see his hard work burnt, providing it did so without fault and looked amazing. “It’s the highlight of the festival and it has to be something worthwhile.” Atop the gigantic structure are

the four main characters from the classic children’s tale, Dorothy, Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow, as well as a rainbow and the Wicked Witch of the West. The famous characters will

be in action on Saturday when children from the region dress up in support of the “Over the Rainbow” theme. A huge selection of the region’s produce will be featured throughout the festival,

including awardwinning wines and beers from the Ferguson Valley. The free event is a country experience, which includes food, art, various stalls, farm animals, Scitech, adventure trail and

fire-related entertainment into the night. The wood for the bull was donated by Westpine and will be set on fire at 8pm as a finale to the festival’s entertainment. GET THE LATEST NEWS FROM
