strong connection to the South West have returned home with a splash as part of a quirky exhibition which explores Bunbury’s relationship with water.
Six artists associated with Bunbury and the South West came back to their childhood towns for So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, which opens at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries on
Friday.
Curator Alisa Blakeney said the exhibition included a number of different styles of art such as printmaking, video and sculptures.
“They are all contemporary artists who are dealing with displacement after leaving their hometown,” she said.
“Many of the artists are looking back on their childhoods and memories of Bunbury and significant landmarks.
Ms Blakeney said the quirky title of the exhibition was a nod to Douglas Adams’ book of the same name and was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.
Former Newton Moore Senior High School student and Perth artist Mark Parfitt spent a day jumping in pools around Bunbury and having it documented through photos as part of the exhibition.
He said he had an interest in making mundane suburban life more fun and celebrating it in unusual ways.
