Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s St Vincent De Paul Society received a much-needed boost to its winter appeal last week, with John Paul College students donating more than 170 winter blankets. The

generous donation was one of the only blanket boosts the local Vinnies store has received since starting its winter appeal last month. Retail manager Robyn Wilson said a few blankets had

been received from a local nursing home, but they had all run out in the first day. “This donation from JPC is absolutely massive and will go a long way to helping so many families and

homeless people in the community who simply do not have anything to keep them warm at night,” she said. “The demand for blankets is huge right now, so it might not last very long, but it is

extremely generous and helpful. “Hopefully, we will have a few other schools or community groups collect some blankets or do a fundraiser for us, because we really are in desperate need.”

Everything from blankets, sheets and doonas to sleeping bags and towels were severely lacking at the store, Ms Wilson said. “The students at JPC are awesome and have always supported us in

one way or another each year,” she said. “Last year, they collected food donations for Christmas time and this year there is also a group of Year 10s creating some care packages for local

families. “It is this kind of support that gets us through.” Donations of clean, non-stained, intact bedding can be dropped off at the Vinnies store on Hay Street. Cash donations can also be

made to help the store buy new bedding for those in need. For more information, phone the store on 9091 8010. GET THE LATEST NEWS FROM THEWEST.COM.AU IN YOUR INBOX. Sign up for our emails
