The Congress and the UPA allies have decided to support the candidature of Om Birla as the Speaker of Lok Sabha, party leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said Tuesday but remained silent on the
issue of Deputy Speaker, reported PTI.
Birla, a BJP MP from Kota-Bundi seat in Rajasthan, is all set to be elected unopposed on Wednesday when the motion seeking his election is moved in Lok Sabha.
Samajwadi Party’s Shafiqur Rahman objected to saying ‘Vande Mataram’ as he took oath of duty, claiming it is un-Islamic. This drew protests from members of treasury benches who demanded an
apology from him.
TMC's Abhishek Banerjee was accosted by slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' as he took the oath of duty on the second day of Lok Sabha. He reponded by saying, 'Thank you, even Modi isn't this
popular.'
As BJP’s Sakshi Maharaj took oath, slogans of 'Mandir Vahin Banaenge' (We will build a temple there alone), were raised.
The slogans refer to the demolition of the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Sakshi Maharaj is an outspoken proponent of the demolition and the replacement of the mosque with a temple.
