The Central Bureau of Investigation has begun the probe into the murder of a prime witness in a rape case against self-styled godman Asaram Bapu. The agency got all documents from the
Muzaffarnagar local police in Uttar Pradesh. According to the SHO of Newmandi police station AK Singh, all papers in connection with the Akhil Gupta murder case were handed over to the CBI
on Friday. The Uttar Pradesh government had on July 24 recommended a CBI probe into the murder of Gupta in a rape case against Asaram Bapu. 35-year-old Akhil was shot at by unidentified
persons on January 11, 2015. Subsequently, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead. He was a cook and personal aide of 74-year-old Asaram, who has been in jail since
August 2013. Asaram has been accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
