Thomas Fletcher – The Conversation

Thomas's current research interests are broadly related to the sociology of sport and leisure and include: "race"/ethnicity, families and fatherhood, heritage, and equity and diversity.

Thomas has a strong background in sport and leisure. Before joining the School of Events, Tourism and Hospitality in January, 2011 he taught widely in sociology and socio-cultural aspects of

sport and leisure at Leeds Beckett. He also has a number of years' experience teaching Sociology and Sports Studies in FE. Beyond Leeds Beckett, Thomas is the Secretary to the Leisure

Studies Association.

Thomas is editor of Cricket, migration and diasporic communities (2015) and co-editor of Sport, leisure and social justice (2017), Sex integration in sport and physical culture

(forthcoming), Sports events, society and culture (2014) and Diversity, equity and inclusion in sport and leisure (2014). He recently completed his first monograph, 'Negotiating fatherhood:

sport and family practices' which will be published with Palgrave Macmillan in Summer 2019. He has published his work in a range of peer review journals including Social & Cultural

Geography, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Journal for Cultural Research, International Review for the Sociology of Sport, Sociological Research Online and Leisure Studies.
