arts and crafts she enjoys with EASTON AUGUST, 3, her daughter with fiancé RON ANTHONY._ I don’t know about you guys, but I am no Martha Stewart. I have never been one to excel in the area

of arts and crafts. I certainly don’t sew my dinner napkins or make my holiday wreaths from scratch. The closest I get to being crafty is when I use cookie cutters when I bake! In light of

my being somewhat inept in this area, I reached out to my friend Karen Kimmel, who is a Los Angeles based artist, designer and creative consultant with an ever-expanding line of

inspirational art tools and accessories called Kimmel Kids. Her ability to create a doorway of expression for both kids and adults alike is truly a gift, and I have learned to be fearless in

my exploration of arts and crafts thanks to her — and of course my darling daughter Easton. Now that the summer months are upon us, I know all of us moms are searching for ways to inspire

our children. Some of us — like myself! — are unable to put their children in summer camp. So if you can’t bring the kid to camp, bring the camp to the kid! Our apartment in New York has

become an explosion of summer fun. Here are some crafting projects that Karen recommends for you and kids on a long summer afternoon. They’re delightfully old-fashioned! For the full step by

knife (and some supervision) * a plain bandanna * acrylic paint or an inkpad * a plate for the paint * newspaper (for the mess) Potato printing is one of those fun, simple projects where the

final product is worth so more than the sum of its parts. With a potato, a knife, and some paint, you can really Pucci out on a craft store bandanna! * 2 sticks per God’s eye * lots of

colorful yarn An oldie, but a goodie! This one is super simple and meditative — great for younger kids. When you’re done, you can screw a hook into the top of your God’s eye and turn it into

an ornament or a mobile. * feathers * buttons * anything that would make a cool silhouette * sunshine! The ultimate, outdoor craft for a sunny day! * jute * beads * key ring * patience Make

it as long and elaborate as you like — one of the women at crafting community rocked hers as a hair accessory! * paperclips * colored tape * pliers * jump rings A great project for older

kids and an absolutely addictive project for moms! You can really play around with the way the paper clips connect to each other and experiment with different shapes. Get ready for some
