CULVER CITY, CA — Culver City students will return to in-person classroom instruction for the first time in the pandemic with additional safety and health protocols, district officials said
Thursday.
Students are currently on spring break, but starting Monday, transitional kindergarteners through second graders will return to campus.
Students in third through fifth grades will return to campus beginning April 12. Students at Culver City Middle School and Culver City High School will return on April 19.
The district is at the mercy of the state and colored tiers and could shift the plan if there is a major spike in case or if Los Angeles County moves into a more restrictive tier, district
officials told Patch.
"These dates could change, but we are hopeful that the worst is behind us and we can get back to educating students on campus," district press representative Geoff Maleman told Patch.
Scheduled cleanings are planned in each classroom, according to the district. And each school site will have a nurse or health technician at the location daily.
"Custodians are wiping down high touch points multiple times throughout the day and sanitizing classrooms daily," the district said. "There is a checklist/maintenance log on each room and
bathroom. Also, custodians have been through rigorous training on additional cleaning."
"The HVAC system was reconfigured to allow for open doors/windows to maximize ventilations and bipolar ionization devices were installed across the district to ionize the air," according to
the district.
The district is also providing PPE for teachers and students, including face masks, tape to show distance for six feet, face shields, sanitizer stations, extra soap, handwashing stations.
Partitions will also be placed in areas where distancing is difficult to maintain.
"Cloth masks for students is the minimum mandate," district officials said. "Parents can choose what kind of mask for their child as long as it covers both the nose and mouth. Each teacher
will have an extra supply of one-time use facial masks for students who may need a covering."
