Travis Hunter was hopeful Shedeur Sanders’ NFL journey would begin shortly after his Thursday night.
Speaking to reporters after he being selected second overall by the Jaguars in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the former Colorado cornerback/wide receiver briefly paused his media
session when the Saints were on the clock at No. 9 to see if they would take the polarizing QB, whose slide would only continue from there.
“You good, my bad, I was hoping that was Shedeur,” the Heisman Trophy winner, 21, said.
New Orleans, which had been linked to Sanders, 23, amid questions about Derek Carr’s availability due to a shoulder injury, selected former Texas offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr.
Sanders, one of the buzziest prospects of this year’s class, did not hear his name called in the first round, sliding past the Steelers at No. 21 and the Giants, who traded for the Texans’
No. 25 pick to grab Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Hunter spent the past two seasons in Colorado with Sanders, the son of the NFL great Deion Sanders. He was coached under Deion at Jackson State in 2022 before moving to Boulder the following
season.
Hunter attended the NFL draft festivities in Green Bay, where he was joined by family and fiancée Leanna Lenee.
Meanwhile, Sanders watched the night unfold in Texas with loved ones.
As the first round concluded, Sanders said he’ll use this night to “fuel the fire.”
“We all didn’t expect this, of course,” Sanders said, as seen in a social media video. “But I feel like, with God, anything is possible. Everything is possible. I don’t feel like this
happened for no reason. All this is is, of course, fuel to the fire. We all know this shouldn’t have happened.”
