Comment Omar Minaya and Brian Cashman. So, last night’s bailout vote went over pretty smoothly. The bill was approved, 74 to 25, but there was a still a lingering tension in the air due to

the presence of the presidential candidates. “Dude, this is awkward,” Obama probably said to Hillary Clinton, with whom he had a “long conversation,” according to the Times. “I’m going to go

talk to him.”

While it took Mr. Obama several seconds to make his way over to Mr. McCain, the actual handshake lasted barely a second, as Mr. McCain responded with a chilly look, a turn of his head and a

brief return handshake.Iced! Fully. Iced. But wait, there’s more! Because McCain wasn’t just like, “Fuck you and the horse you rode in on” to Obama, he was also like, “Fuck you and all the

other … horses.”

When Mr. McCain arrived shortly before 8 p.m., he did not join other Republicans in addressing the Senate. Senate aides said Mr. McCain did not want to be preceded or followed by Democratic

senators, so he chose not to offer remarks on the bill. Amazing. Now, look, we’ve been on the playground and we fully understand that McCain is making a point here that he does not want to

play Obama’s faux-nice passive-aggressive game. But man. It’s one thing to get your back up during a debate but in the Senate chamber? Where you have shown up to actually vote for the same

bill? That is next-level.A Second of Drama On The Senate Floor [NYT] Tags: the greatest depression barack obama business john mccain politics roger prigent marble busts More Show Leave a
