Congress leaders on Thursday hit out at the central government for allegedly stalling Justice KM Joseph’s elevation to the Supreme Court – a recommendation made by the SC collegium some

months ago. Justice Joseph is the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. Addressing the media, Congressman Kapil Sibal asked: “What is the reason for the government holding the

collegium recommendation for four months? Seven vacancies are there, six judges are due to retire. Why were they (government) holding on to the files? It is the litigants who suffer.”

Meanwhile, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union law minister, shot back at the Congress, _India Today_ reported. “The whole record of Congress party is littered with repeated instances of superseding

inconvenient judges and comprising with the dignity of judiciary,” he said. On Wednesday, lawyer Indu Malhotra was elevated to the apex court; hers was the other name recommended by the

collegium.
