Access through your institution Buy or subscribe Silicon oil (SO) is a commonly used internal tamponade in retinal detachment (RD) surgery. Subretinal SO is a rare but serious complication


of the same [1]. SO can migrate into any open retinal break especially if surrounding area is detached, causing loss of internal tamponade and ultimately, failure of RD repair [2]. The


emulsified SO would have passed through the macular hole into the sub-retinal space and accumulated giving the appearance of an inverse pseudohypopyon or macular hyperoleon. Imaging studies
