my opinion, toe-curling utterances such as these (of which there are many) are likely to backfire and leave the reader rooting for strings by the end of the book. The author says, “I

personally dislike conflict and confrontation”, but his book cover claims that as a scientific theory, string theory has been “a colossal failure” and is “dragging down the rest of science”.
