John Lowry was recently awarded a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) by her Majesty the Queen at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. The CBE was awarded for services to hospital dental


surgery. Dr Lowry graduated in dental surgery in 1963 at the University of Manchester and after house officer and SHO posts was registrar to the plastic and maxillofacial unit in West


Yorkshire before entering medical school. He has been consultant in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Royal Bolton Hospital and Blackburn Royal Infirmary since 1976 and was elected


President of the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (2001). Among his current posts are Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery RCS(Eng), Chairman of the Standing Dental
