A generalization of the concept of acid-strength and acidity

ABSTRACT AT the present time it is still difficult to compare the strengths of acids dissolved in different solvents either on an experimental or a theoretical basis. The acidity constant

_K_ _a_ as defined by Brønsted is merely a measure of the strength of the acid in the given solvent. The acidity-functions as proposed by Hammett1 and others2 give only experimental means of
