ABSTRACT THE new volume of “Mellor” includes the elements uranium manganese and uranium, manganese and its recently discovered homologues, and iron. The chapters dealing with the first two

elements do not call for special comment, although it may be noted that triangular diagrams are used extensively to illustrate the properties of ternary alloys of manganese and that the

spectrum of the element is recorded in unusual detail. It is, however, of interest to note that the homologues of manganese already occupy 17 pages, including more than 1-J pages of
