Netflix to reboot 'iconic' series based on beloved books from decades ago

IT'S BEEN DECADES SINCE THE ORIGINAL SHOW AIRED 09:52, 02 Feb 2025 Netflix is set to reboot an iconic series based on beloved books from decades ago that still prove highly popular

today. The Little House books, written by Laura Ingalls Wilder were based on her stories of growing up in the American West in the 1800s. They were originally published in the 1930s and

served as inspiration for the hit television series Little House on the Prairie. The show ran for close to ten years from the 1970s into the 80s. Now, Netflix has confirmed that they are

rebooting the show, based on the same source material for a brand new generation. The streaming platform is set to reimagine the treasured novels and hope to honour the semi-autobiographical

nature of the books. In an announcement on the Tudum website, the company claim the series will offer a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier. It

also goes on to say that it will serve as part family drama, part epic survival tale and also an origin story of the American West. This could be welcome news for shows that are based at a

similar time period but offer a significantly more graphic and violent tone, such as American Primeval. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who has served as a writer on series including The Boys and The

Vampire Diaries, is serving as showrunner. She told Netflix: "I fell deeply in love with these books when I was 5 years old. They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I

am honoured and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience.” The streamer hopes that the new Little House on the Prairie will sit comfortably alongside their slate of wholesome

and heart warming stories for viewers to cosy up with, such as Virgin River, Sweet Magnolias, My Life with the Walter Boys, and the upcoming Ransom Canyon. Article continues below Jinny
