THE HIGH STREET GIANT IS SET TO CLOSE TWO OF ITS 900 STORES ACROSS THE UK IN JUNE AND JULY 11:52, 02 Jun 2025 Iceland is set to close two stores across the UK this summer. The reason for the

closures has not yet been confirmed but parking charges and fines are thought to have caused the high street shop to struggle at one of the sites. The supermarket chain will be closing a

store in Margate on June 21 and in Inverness city centre on July 12, the Mirror reports. The frozen food retailer - which has around 900 stores across the UK - has been in the site in

College Square in Margate for the last decade. It comes after around 13,479 high street stores closed for good last year - a 28 per cent increase from the previous year - according to recent

data from the Centre for Retail Research. The data estimates that around 17,350 stores will close this year as businesses face higher National Insurance Contributions (NICs) and increases

in the national minimum wage from April. _JOIN THE MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS __WHATSAPP__ GROUP _HERE Article continues below The reason for the closure has not been confirmed, however,

Iceland has said that staff working at the store have been offered jobs in other areas of the business. On the closure, a spokesperson said: "We can confirm our Margate Iceland store

will close. "Our store colleagues have entered into a consultation process and have been offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible." In the Scotland store,

consumers had previously complained about the parking charges and fines, according to The Press and Journal, which have become a major battle for local high streets. Past reports have stated

that parking charges are a significant factor in the death of the high street, with many shoppers claiming it puts them off driving into town. Article continues below Iceland is yet to

reveal why both the Margate and Inverness stores were chosen for closure.
