A NEW 59P TREAT HAS BEEN MET WITH MIXED REVIEWS BY LIDL SHOPPERS 12:21, 21 May 2025 Lidl shoppers have spotted a new 59p cake on shelves in stores but while some have been excited to see the

new treat on shop shelves, others have been less impressed. Last week, shoppers noticed that Lidl had added slices of school cake to its shop shelves. Since being spotted on shelves, the

cake has received an abundance of gleeful comments on social media from shoppers excited to see the traditional cake in Lidl stores. However, the treat has also been met with criticism as

many shoppers raise the same complaint. Many shoppers have been thrilled by the arrival of the sprinkle-topped sponge cake to Lidl stores, with the treat bringing back nostalgic memories for

many shoppers. Writing on the popular food Facebook page Snack Reviews, one Lidl shopper, George Alexander, expressed excitement for the cake’s arrival in stores as he wrote: "The good

old days are back." Article continues below A second shopper, Ben Chapman, added: "My favourite!" The treat has also been receiving a number of raving reviews from customers

who have tried the treat already. One Lidl shopper, Laura Thorogood, said: "Had a slice today and it was really very nice! Would have it again." A second Lidl shopper, Abby

Fitzpatrick, said: "Bought a slice this morning. Absolutely elite." Another, Holly Jayne, added: "Tasted it today 10/10." Yet, the cake has received criticism from some

shoppers after the treat did not live up to their memories of school cake. On the Facebook page, one shopper, NI CI, said: "Doesn't look much like traditional old school cake,

that's more of a butter cream frosting on top rather than icing." Another shopper, Nerys Martin, wrote: "Naaaah, school cake had solidified runny icing (like on iced buns) not

butter cream icing." A third shopper, Marcel Hodge, added: "That is not the school cake I remember, the icing looks too thick." Article continues below Alongside these

complaints, other shoppers have also taken to social media to critique the size and cost of the slices of cake. One shopper, James Smith, wrote: "59p each, what a rip off."

Another, Nick Haddington, added: "About one inch by one inch. It’s tiny." The treat can be found in Lidl stores for a limited time at 59p.
